Father’s Day is over, and the next parental, romance, or otherwise flowery-themed holiday isn’t for months. So why give someone flowers in July? The real question is, why not! Here are ten good reasons to give someone a flower or flowers in July.
10. Because it’s summer!
What could brighten up your best friend’s kitchen table better than a bouquet right now?
9. Because your friend’s house stinks.
One of the saddest reasons I have for rarely visiting a few folks that I’d enjoy seeing is the overpowering smell of cigarettes in their homes. I don’t mean to be rude or complain about someone else’s life choices, but since I’m not used to smoke, it really overpowers me, making me sick and sometimes wheezy. A flower might help take some of the smell away! The same goes for big bean and broccoli eaters, people who forget to take out their trash, and people who cook with a lot of garlic (now THAT I can stand).
8. Because you’re sorry.
If you’ve been in a fight with someone recently and you wish to apologize, flowers can help soften the blows you dealt.
7. Because Mr. McCoy is sick.
People who are sick often hear “Feel better,” but how often do they receive flowers and cards these days? If you have a child and your ill friend is elderly, be sure to include a hand-drawn picture from your kiddo. It will be sure to make your friend smile.
6. Because you are in love.
Flowers may be overrated in romance by some—especially fancy store-bought bouquets or wasteful flower-killing—but chances are that your special someone will smile if given a hand-cut lily from your garden, or even a thriving new potted plant to symbolize your affection.
5. Because you love to see your mom’s face light up.
Moms expect flowers on Mother’s Day—but not in the middle of July! Make her day by sending some “just because.”
4. Because you are so proud of your kiddo.
Maybe Susie aced her piano recital, or Benjamin had a standing ovation at his dance competition. Perhaps Stacy experienced menarche and you want to celebrate her new journey into adulthood. Children and teens like flowers, too!
3. Because Grandma loves her little Mikey.
Like moms, grandmothers—most of the ones I’ve known, anyway—never tire of flowers. Bonus if you pick out a favorite plant she can plant in her yard.
2. Because your coworker is having a rough time of it.
Not many of us think to send flowers anonymously, but we all probably know someone who could use a gift from a secret admirer or friend. Be sure to keep it secret for maximum effect!
1. Because you want to.
Essentially, that’s the best reason to do most anything, isn’t it?
